Have we lost the fight against video game microtransactions?

Microtransactions seem to be gamers kryptonite, I have never seen a gamer who likes them, so one might wonder why we still have them in our games, and today they are more present than ever despite our hatred for them, but why is that, I mean we are the ones buying the product so we need to be satisfied but we still get them, of course, some offenses are worse than others, but all are evil in one way or another.




Possibly the best case scenario is represented in Blizzard's Overwatch, as the loot boxes in this game are for pure cosmetics, you really can't improve your gameplay or chance of winning by buying loot boxes and this has been going on for a year or two and it shows no sign of turning over to the dark side and offering statistical changes whatsoever, on the other hand, you have the new Call Of Duty games, all the past four iterations have had some sort of supply drops, and these games are probably the worst offenders, as you pretty much are gambling for a chance to get a gun with better statistics or a variant with better statistcs, and gamers hated the system since its introduction in Advanced Warfare, but nonetheless they got it in everygame after that, even the COD 4 remaster.

 
Surprisingly the law might be cracking down on games that include such practices, Europe and some American states are in the process of outlawing loot boxes because they view them as virtual gambling and honestly once you think about it, it's true because you are throwing your money away for a chance to win a prize, even if it is lackluster.


Finally the short answer is no, we have not lost the fight at all, we might appear beaten but we still have some fight left in us, and with the law on our side we might win this war between us gamers and corprate, but you still have to understand that development costs are gettin higher and higher so developers need another way of getting fianace, and I dont think cosmetic only loot boxes would annoy any gamer, far from it, as it would give us an incentive to play the game even more, for now, let us  keep fighting because our firey passion will not be extenguished with greed
