Honestly, I am not much of a horror fan, but if a horror movie looks promising enough I might go watch it, and 2017 was great for horror lovers as we had a lot of great movies, some were phenomenal and some were just good enough, some had a light-hearted approach while others were more heavy-handed, but whichever way you look at it horror definitely had a great year.
(Note: This list is not in any particular order)
In all honesty, the first Annabelle movie was lackluster, mediocre at best, so I was hesitant to go and watch this movie, but after Ouija 2: Origin of Evil turned out to be a great movie I thought that some horror movies can be salvaged, so I reluctunty went to see this sequel, and to my delight the movie actually turned out to be great, the characters were fleshed out and we had were interduced to how annabelle came to be, moreover the movie did not use alot of jumpscares, it instead opted to use atmospheric spookiness, which is a breath of fresh air, and honestly it all went together quite nicely.
To be completely frank i did not think that this movie would turn out well, I mean Shyamalan has a horrendous history of botching up great ideas for movies with his twist gimmick, so all throughout this movie I was waiting for it to be ruined for me, but surprisingly it was not, and the twist we got was not all that bad, I am not going to spoilt it if anyone has not seen the movie; I must commend James Mcavoy for his amazing performance, the way he changes the personalities makes us think of each as an actual distinct person and not just as silly comedic relifs, moreover the movie had a decent supporting cast, but in all honest Mcavoy steals the show entirely by himself and his 24 distinct personalities.
I know, a Stephen King movie adaptation of one of his best book that turns out well? Impossible, or so I thought, but apparently I was wrong, and dead wrong at that, because this movie was amazing and it was unparalleled in quality, the cast was extremely talented, I was not expecting much from child actors but they killed it, I was particularly fond or Ritchie because he was absolutely hilarious, but the all the characters were amazing and Bill Skarsgard makes for an unbelievably scary Pennywise, the movie's comedy and seriousness go together like PB&J, and for once I am actaully hopeful for its sequel, as the source material is rich, alas if I had to pick a favourite it would be IT (See what I did there?).
Thanks for reading! A share would be extremely helpful, and remember to subscribe ( It's Free!), and as always remember to be cynical.
