Oh my, just how great these past few weeks were for movies, we had a bunch of hits and next to none blunders which is a great way to start 2018.
Strangely enough in a twist of events Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle beat Star Wars: The Last Jedi in weekend profits, even if Star wars beat it by total gross by a long shot, Jumanji still beat Star wars in the weekend gross with Jumanji making a whopping 37$ million while Star wars made 23$million, I attribute this to the popularity of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black ( my favorite of the cast regardless if I did or did not like his performance ) and Nick Jonas, however I was a bit iffy as people were not quite on the idea of Jumanji being a video game, but frankely they cleared that up quite early on in the movie, all in all the film was fun and it definatly deserves its Box office success.
Close behind is Insidious: The last key, and unfortunately, it let me down, I did not have high expectations by any means as I know the insidious movies are usually hit or miss, well it leans more to the miss angle, however after the last movie I was quite excited for this one because Elise is an interesting character and her backstory is mysterious, but what we got was lackluster, anyhow the movie had a decent opening weekend tolling 29$ million, which is nearly triple their production cost ( 10$ million) I do think that this movie can muster a following but it did not hit it off with me.
Possibly the most controversial of the three, and strangely the third in weekend gross, which is quite peculiar because of just how huge star wars is, I did enjoy the movie but I did not like how they had handled luke because his intentions were not clear I mean he leaves the map leading to him should he be needed but when someone actually finds him he brushes them off? It did not make sense at all, additionally the entire side plot of Fin and Rose felt really rushed and forced as I do not think anyone found Rose amusing at all, that entire story arc was filler, the movie was decent though and I did enjoy chunks of it, and it showed that fans did not like the movie much as it merely made 23$ million in its opening weekend despite it making the most in total gross, nearly 572$ million !
Thanks for reading! A share would be extremely helpful, and remember to subscribe ( It's Free!), and as always, remember to be cynical.
(Note: I might do a full Insidious movie review if I find it to have enough material)
